What is reverse osmosis?

Several stages, one glass of water.

Water passes through filters and a semi-permeable membrane, then a final filter, before it reaches its own faucet at your sink. It's kept ready in a small tank or, with a tankless system, made as you use it.

  1. 01

    Incoming Water

Cold water from the supply line under your sink.

  2. 02

    Sediment Filtration

Captures particles such as sand, silt and rust.

  3. 03

    Carbon Filtration

Reduces chlorine, taste and odor, and protects the membrane.

  4. 04

    RO Membrane

A semi-permeable membrane that reduces dissolved solids.

  5. 05

    Final Filtration

A polishing stage before the water reaches your glass.

  6. 06

    Dedicated Faucet

Filtered water on tap, separate from your main faucet.

Exact filtration stages vary by system. This is a typical path. Contaminant reduction depends on the specific system and your incoming water.

FAQ

Reverse osmosis questions.

View all FAQs →

What is reverse osmosis?

Reverse osmosis (RO) is a filtration process that pushes water through a semi-permeable membrane, which reduces many dissolved solids and other substances. Under-sink RO systems pair the membrane with pre- and post-filters and deliver the filtered water through a dedicated faucet. Reduction performance varies by system and by the water coming into your home.

What does RO installation include?

Each installed package includes the selected RO system, a dedicated faucet and a standard under-sink installation performed by licensed and insured plumbers. Package pricing assumes a standard under-sink installation; plumbing modifications, specialty installations, refrigerator connections or other site-specific requirements may add to the price. We confirm installation requirements before any work begins.

Do I purchase the RO system separately?

No. Installed package pricing ($999, $1,299 or $1,599) covers the system, a dedicated faucet and standard professional installation. There is no online checkout. You schedule the installation, and we confirm the details with you before any work begins.

Which RO system should I choose?

Essential RO is a straightforward 5-stage system for everyday drinking and cooking water. Premium RO adds a sixth stage for alkaline remineralization and a higher rated production of 75 GPD. Tankless RO is a 7-stage system that skips the storage tank for a more compact install, with production rated up to 400 GPD. If you're unsure, pick the closest fit when you schedule installation; we confirm the system with you before any work begins.

Does an RO system need a drain connection?

Yes. Reverse osmosis sends some water to the drain as part of the filtration process, so a standard installation typically includes a drain connection under the sink. The exact setup depends on the system and your plumbing.

Where is the RO faucet installed?

The dedicated drinking-water faucet is usually mounted on the sink or countertop next to your main faucet. The location depends on your sink and countertop, and we confirm it with you before installation.

Can an RO system connect to my refrigerator or ice maker?

Many RO systems can supply a refrigerator or ice maker. Whether it's practical depends on the system, the distance and your kitchen layout, and it's quoted as an addition to the standard installation. Let us know in your request.

How often do RO filters need to be replaced?

It depends on the system, your water and how much you use. As a general guide, manufacturers commonly recommend replacing pre- and post-filters about every 6 to 12 months and the RO membrane every few years. Always follow the manufacturer's schedule for your specific system.
